Clubs & Organizations

At Sherwood Elementary School, we believe in providing students with a wide variety of extracurricular activities that cater to different interests and encourage personal growth. Our clubs and organizations offer opportunities for students to explore their passions, develop new skills, and build friendships outside the classroom. Below is a list of our engaging and fun clubs available to students:

Junior Beta Club

The National Beta Club (often called "Beta Club" or simply "Beta") is an organization for 4th grade through 12th grade students in the United States. Its purpose is "to promote the ideals of academic achievement, character, leadership and service among elementary and secondary school students."

Over the past several years, SES Jr. Beta has competed and succeeded at the state and national level. Most recently in Savannah, GA. As well as Disney World in Orlando, FL. Students are able to serve their school, families and community through service projects and are setting a strong academic foundation for years to come.

Students learn about themselves and thrive through the various opportunities given through BETA. Sherwood Elementary was recently recognized for being a School of Distinction for the 2018-2019 school year thanks to efforts of our members and parents.

Robotics Team

The Sherwood Robotics Team consists of 4th and 5th grade students who exemplify 21st century skills such as leadership, collaboration, critical thinking, communication, and creativity.  As a team the students work together to design and build a robot that meets the criteria to compete in a VEX IQ Robotics Competition.  VEX IQ is a snap-together robotics system that is specifically designed to build highly functional robots.  VEX robotics is used throughout all of the Phenix City School District from elementary to high school.  Students are chosen each year through a rigorous application process.  After the application is completed, students are invited to participate in a Robotics try-out program.  This try-out is used to determine the students who best meet the 21st century skills needed to have a successful robotics team.  If you have any questions about the Sherwood Robotics Team, please reach out to Mrs. Rasmusson.
